Agave desmettiana ‘Variegata’

Botanical Name:  Agave desmettiana ‘Variegata’

Common Name:  Variegated Smooth Agave

This is a gorgeous dwarf agave that is variegated and smooth. It grows to about 3′ x 3′ AND doesn’t have all those sharp, pokey spines along its leaves (that’s what the “smooth” means). Even the tip of each leaf is a soft sharp. Most of the leaf edges have a thin creamy-colored edge. So pretty!

Being a typical agave, it likes full to part sun, is drought tolerant once established, and is hardy down to about 25 degrees. Grows great in containers or in your garden in a well drained area. It blooms pretty yellow flowers on a very tall flower spike when it’s about eight to ten years old. The original plant dies after blooming, but by the time it blooms it’s grown plenty of pups for you to enjoy.
