Actually we have two plants of the week this time: Lespedeza liukluensis “Little Volcano” and Lespedeza thunbergii “Spring Grove.” Both have the same mounding/arching growth habit, are semi-evergreen, hardy zones 6a – 9b, low maintenance, like sun to part sun, fast growing, drought tolerant once established, and bloom heavy in the Spring and Fall. The difference between the two is size. LV gets a good 8′ x 8′, while SG stays 5 – 6′ tall and wide.

The blooms are a very pretty lavender/purple color that look somewhat like sweet pea blooms. SG’s bloom panicles are 24″ long and LV’s are about 15″ long.

How stunning would these be either as an informal hedge (please do not shear these) or as a single awesome specimen plant in your garden!

We have them in 1-gallon containers $5.99 each.

Happy digging in the dirt…
